Help is just a phone call away for your Internet Explorer
Internet
Explorer was a very popular browser once upon a time. Microsoft even made it
the default browser for its Windows 8 operating system. However, the company is
trying to wash its hands off this browser for the last 4-5 years. In fact,
Microsoft wants its users to stop using Internet Explorer. This is the reason
why it even introduced a browser called Edge to encourage people to switch to
it. Internet Explorer support is not officially available from the
company.
The final nail in the
coffin has come from Chris Jackson who is himself a Microsoft employee. This
cyber security expert working in Widows division of the company has said
continuing with Internet Explorer as the default browser can be a risky
proposition for businesses. Jackson says that IE 10 is no more than a
compatibility solution now days. It should not be used by businesses for whole
day browsing as Microsoft has stopped supporting it according to modern browser
standards. He added that even though IE 10 continues to work well for most of
the websites, it is a fact that modern day developers are not using it for
their testing purposes. They are relying on other modern browsers for testing
the websites they are designing.
It is a fact
that a vast majority of users have already switched to browsers like Chrome,
Edge, and Firefox. But there are still a large number of businesses who are
continuing with Internet Explorer because of their reliance on old web apps
that have not been modernized or refined. Microsoft tried its best to encourage
these businesses to switch to its new browser Edge but IT managers of these
businesses have persisted with the compatibility mode of Internet Explorer to
be able to make use of old web apps.
This warning
form Jackson comes at the right time for businesses still relying on Internet
Explorer 10. But many of them were not satisfied with Edge, the new browser
introduced by Microsoft nearly 4 years ago. They say that this browser is not
as good as IE 10 and it does not provide compelling browsing experience like IE
10 did. Also, while Edge is compatible with Windows 10, it is incompatible with
both Windows 7 and Windows 8, making things more difficult for IT admins in
businesses still using IE 10.
Realizing the
difficulties of these businesses, Microsoft is planning to launch Chromium
powered version of its browser called Edge. This new browser will be compatible
with Windows 7 and Windows 8. This new browser should encourage business to
switch form old Internet Explorer to Edge Chromium.
