It is like to work in the HP 3D printing division
Manufacturing
industry is worth a massive $12 trillion dollars. HP believes that its
initiative in 3D printing will be able to slice a big chunk of this market. 3D
printing is a revolutionary manufacturing method where materials are added in
layers in a computer controlled environment.
Experience in
printing is helping HP in 3D printing
Manufacturing
through 3D printing is in its nascent stages right now and worth around $12
billion. Experts believe this figure will increase exponentially in the coming
years. HP started its journey in 3D printing only 2 years ago and introduced
its metal jet 3D printer that can manufacture parts made of stainless steel. If
one goes by HP printer support sources, giant automotive companies like BMW and
Volkswagen have already given it orders for this printer.
HP knows that it
is going to face stiff competition in the field of 3D printing from established
players like 3D Systems, EOS, and Stratasys. But the company believes it can
carve a niche for itself in 3D printing through its high quality, cost
effective printers that will perform at a high speed. Through online HPprinter support, the company believes it can improvise on all these three
areas to outperform its competitors.
3D printing
will bring in multiple benefits
HP says that
with its 3D printers, it will be possible to create parts made of plastic
steel, and other materials on the site. This is not possible in traditional
manufacturing where CAD software creates the digital version and the prototype
is manufactured at a different site. This means that the production cycle
becomes shorter and the products can be manufactured inshore instead of being
manufactured offshore thousands of miles away. This is going to be a big
advantage for companies as well as their customers. It is also a good thing for
the environment as it reduces carbon footprint.
Being in the
business of 3D printing, it is not surprising that HP tech support is
pushing for 3D printing technology. To prove to the world that it is sincere,
HP is already using 3D printing for manufacturing some of the parts of its
printers and computers. Interestingly, the latest offering form the company in
the field of 3D printing, Fusion 3D 2000 is a machine that consists of 140
parts that were manufactured with the help of one of its 3D printer.
HP accepts that
3D printing is expensive because of the high cost of 3D printers. If there is a
part that is used by more than 55000 parts, it is not feasible to manufacture
it through 3D printing. HP says that if the number of these parts is less than
55000, it is actually cheaper to use 3D printing. HP considers 5500 as a
breakeven point. It is trying to raise the bar to a million over a period of
time to make its 3D printers more practical for the end users.
The company is working hard to reduce the cost
of its 3D printers. At the same time, it is also working to increase their
speed and quality.
